How to Set Up Multi-Room Music Playback on Google Home Devices

If you don't get a notification, open the Google Home app and tap the bubble that says "Set up 1 device" at the top. Choose which home you want to add this device to (you'll probably only have one). If I ask Google Assistant to play music in the “Family room,” the Assistant will play my music on all three speakers at the same time.
Now all music is always cast to all Homes without having to specify each time. However, you can pair your Google Home speaker with Bluetooth speakers around the house. With this feature, it is possible to have a multiroom audio experience with a mixture of Google Home and non-Google Home devices. To begin with, having multiple smart speakers means that if you set an alarm or reminder on one, you get a nudge at the right time from any of them at the right time.

Pairing multiple Google Home speakers simultaneously is possible, but it’s tricky. You can easily connecttwo Google speakers at once. When you want to connect two devices, you do it by pairing them together. That means they’re connected to the same network and can communicate. This isn’t as hard as you think, and it doesn’t need any special equipment.
The way to do it is by connecting a Sonos speaker to your TV through HDMI. You will need the TV to also have either a Chromecast or a Chromecast with Android TV. Put the Chromecast in a speaker group with your other Google Home speakers. If the TV is on and set to the Chromecast output, the Sonos speaker will play in sync with the other Google Home speakers. I have two of the IKEA Sonos speakers paired together and linked to my Sonos beam.
Play music on multiple speakers by creating a speaker group in Google Home
You can either choose an individual speaker, or the group that includes several speakers in one area. The next phase of the setup process will let you choose the rooms in which each speaker will reside. If you have multiple speakers in one room, this can be a quick and easy way to group them together, but you can set up a multi-room group later in the process. Here, just choose which room your speaker belongs to, such as Living Room or Kitchen, and tap Next. Once you plug in a new smart speaker, your mobile device should automatically tell you there is a new Google Home to set up.
If you have a two-story house, you may also create two separate groups , and then activate them as needed. There are plenty of possibilities as long as you have multiple speakers. You can add new devices and remove them just as easily.

Google recently added a new feature that allows you to transfer sound from one speaker to another. So, if you want to switch from your speaker group to an individual speaker, you can do it with your voice. At the top left corner, there will be a symbol (+). By clicking on this add symbol, you will be able to create a group for multi-room audio.
You can transfer your session at any time to a speaker group that you’ve already created (for example, you can create a group for all the speakers in your home called 'All speakers'). Audio will immediately stop playing on that device. From there you'll also see which devices are included and are capable of recognising your voice. Then as long as the voice is recognised, the right account will be used for each person in the home, giving a much more personal experience. It's also worth getting each person to set up voice match properly to train Google Assistant to recognise the different voices in the home.

Audio will begin to play in sync on any devices selected. You'll also notice that on the Home screen of the Google Home app your speakers will be displayed in rooms e.g. 'Living room' and 'Bathroom' which is a handy way to glance at them. Tap the plus in the top left corner and then hit Create speaker group, which will show you speakers on your network. All Chromecast audio speakers or speakers with Chromecast built-in will also work together in a multi-room audio setup.
Then go to a different music app, select some other music and cast it to another device. Though this approach is quite lengthy, it works well, avoiding the typical confusion that at times arises with voice commands. This is in fact one of the top benefits of having multiple Google Home devices linked to the same ecosystem. These devices offer support for multiroom audio allowing you to simultaneously play the same music on several devices. With this feature, you can play music at a reasonable volume and move about the house without missing a single beat from your favorite audio.
Similarly, this also applies to speaker groups, found at the bottom of the app. One of the best things about Google Home units is that they can work independently as well as together. This is great for when you have music, podcasts, audiobooks, or something else you’d like to listen to around the home. All Google speakers are supported (Google Home, Google Home Mini, Google Nest Mini, Google Home Max, Chromecast , and even some third-party speakers. YES, it is possible to connect multiple Google Minis simultaneously, but it still depends on where you are going to use the Google Mini speakers. One Google Mini speaker is enough for a small room, two for medium-sized rooms, and three or more for large rooms.
One of the joys of the Google Home/Nest system is the ability to broadcast messages across devices in the home. This means that you can send voice messages from one of the smart speakers to all the other Google Home devices. We've covered how to set up broadcasting in a separate feature, but once setup is complete, it's really as simple as saying "OK Google, broadcast..." followed by the message you want to send. One of the best ways to do it is by going to a music app on your smartphone, selecting the music you want and casting it to a specific Home device.
Any music you play will be synced up, so you should be able to walk from one room to another without even noticing you're listening to a different speaker. The Google Home app will automatically detect available networks. If you're already connected to your Wi-Fi network on your phone, you can just tap the network and choose Next.
The best part is that you can mix and match different types of speakers, from the Google Home and Mini to the Google Home Hub and Max. The Google Home app will take you through the final phases of setup, which may vary if you already have other devices set up. You'll be asked to confirm privacy policies, add your address, and enable voice match.
For example, in the kitchen saying "OK Google, play a relaxing playlist on my living room speaker" would do just that. On your Nest display, tap the active media card to bring up the media player. At the bottom left corner of your screen, tap Devices to find a list of available devices. Once you've mastered the basics, you can also do things like setting up a Google Home Routine so that your multi-room speakers start playing music when you get home. Once you have all your speakers connected to a group, you may want to give them each some room to get that perfect sound. Experiment with moving your speakers around in your rooms to get the most coverage.
